Spawning trap for ornamental fish with moss holder – modular & optimized for breeding
This modular spawning trap for ornamental fish was specially developed for the controlled egg laying of free-spawning fish. Thanks to its well-designed construction, eggs are reliably separated from the parent fish and can be collected for further rearing.
Well-designed multi-part system
The spawning trap consists of several functional components:
stable collection container (bottom)
Grid insert with integrated moss holder
Riser pipe for egg transport
All parts are made of high-quality, aquarium-safe plastic, are durable, dimensionally stable and completely safe for fish and eggs.
Integrated moss holder for natural spawning incentives
The upper grid is equipped with a moss holder into which aquarium moss (e.g. Java moss or similar) can be inserted or hung.
The moss lying on top serves as:
natural spawning stimulus
additional structure & coverage
Orientation point for spawning fish
This encourages the animals to lay their eggs above the grid, ensuring they fall safely into the collection area and are not eaten.
Expandable with an external collection or breeding container
For the spawning trap to function fully, it must be combined with an external breeding or collection container, e.g., with common plastic breeding boxes for external mounting on the aquarium (e.g., Fluval Breeder).
👉 Important note:
The external breeding container is not included and must be purchased separately.
In combination, the eggs become:
protected by the grid
transported upwards via the riser pipe
securely collected in the external container
